2023 Exhibition Announced
Cheshire art Gallery will host the full collection of twenty-five Goth series works by Geoffrey Key
Combining both oils and works on paper these are some of the most acutely felt and vivid works Geoffrey has produced and comprise a magnificent late flowering of talent.
Exhibition runs from the 28th October till 18th November 2023
To celebrate the series before the individual works are snapped up and scattered to the four winds a book, Goth, is soon to be published book as a record of these exceptional works by Geoffrey Key.

Meet the artist behind the Salford exhibition
Geoffrey Key has been showcasing a collection of inspirational artworks at the prestigious Salford Art Gallery for just over a year now. The museum is displaying a number of works by its celebrated artists Geoffrey Key and Harold Riley alongside L.S. Lowry in the “Exploring the Collection” which is scheduled to finish this month on the 30th April 2023. As the end of the exhibition approaches, Geoffrey was in attendance at the weekend and graciously chatted with visitors, sharing an insight into his artwork and the creative process.

was one such testament to Geoff’s incredible talent on display. Enthusiasts in attendance expressed awe at Geoffrey’s impressive use of art techniques and his unique style.
Finale event organiser Matthew Leech, Cheshire Art Gallery commented,
“It feels like we all had an opportunity to explore Geoff’s creativity through his paintings on display in Salford, I can honestly say it has been a privilege to share this insight with others who enjoy it too!”

As one of Britain’s most popular and distinctive artists, Geoffrey has gone to extreme lengths to cultivate this individual style and has in his recent series ‘Isolated Heads’ painted perhaps the most intensely observed and sensitive psychological record of the pandemic.
Over sixty three years as a professional artist, through a combination of technique, tone and colour Geoffrey Key has produced a body of work that, whilst highly original, creates a feeling of deep joy and timeless quality.
Cheshire Art Gallery are proud to present ‘Key Decades’ Exhibition, the first full retrospective. This major exhibition, which has taken more than three years to curate has uncovered many important works several of which were believed lost. The result is a sensuous taste of Key’s artistic journey that will not only delight but also challenge the orthodox view of Key’s progress as an artist. It will also surprise even his most knowledgeable and avid admirers.

Exhibition at Collect Art is a huge success
Hundreds of people enjoyed Geoffrey Key’s artwork exhibition at Collect Art in Lymm
The show which took place on 12th -15th November 2021 displayed artwork from Geoffrey, widely considered to be one of the UK's most important contemporary artists.
"There isn’t one picture I’m not pleased with. I’m just over the moon with the show"
Geoffrey, who is celebrating his 80th birthday year, hence the exhibition - says he is over the moon with how the show has been received. “All this work I have never seen together before. To come in and see so many years’ worth of work together and Collect Art has been hyper-selective, it’s like meeting a lot of old friends".
There was work displayed from the 1960s all the way until 2021, including the latest collection, inspired by figures against clouds.
Martin Heaps, owner of Collect Art in Lymm welcomed around 70-80 people per day and an estimated 300 overall. He said: “The weekend went extremely well – more than what we had anticipated. “We have never run them on a Sunday for instance and never opened until late on Saturday but there was a steady flow of people every day.”

Part 2 of the film is due for release to coincide with the currently postponed - The Key Decades Exhibition.
